Building Material Exhibitors Excited to Attend Architect Expo 2018 under the Concept “Beyond Ordinary”, the Biggest Exhibition of Architectural Works in ASEAN to Generate Economic Growth in the Second Half of the Year

Bangkok, April 4, 2018 — The Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty and TTF International Co., Ltd announced the readiness of Architect Expo 2018 under the concept “Beyond Ordinary”, to be held from May 1-6, 2018 at Challenger Hall 1-3, Impact Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani. The Expo aims to showcase local architectural design both in the Thai contemporary lifestyle and Southeast Asian region, including Living Tech architectural advancement designed to support the life quality of senior citizens in the Thailand 4.0 digital era.

“The Architect Expo is the biggest exhibition of architectural technology and building materials in Southeast Asia. It has been held annually since 1986 and this is our 32nd time,” said Mr. Atchapol Dusitanon, Chairman of the Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty. “Our main purpose is to showcase state-of-the-art products and innovative construction technology, architecture-related materials, interior design, and landscape architecture. We put together many exhibitions, activities, multinational seminars that cater to both members and the general public. This expo will also focus on the role and transition of architectural and local design in the Thai contemporary lifestyle, featuring the knowledge inherited from the past and the design concept utilizing local materials practical for future use.” Renowned Thai architects and designers partaking in the Architect Expo 2018 include Prof.                         Dr. Veera Inpantang, Boonlert Hemvijitraphan, Suruya Ampansirirat and many other groups of young architects. Participants will be able to adopt new ideas from the Expo and apply to their current living.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Apiradee Kasemsuk, President of the Architect Expo 2018, revealed that this year’s objective “Vernacular Living” under the concept of “Beyond Ordinary” will emphasize on the procedure of architectural design in the Thai contemporary lifestyle.  It is the first time that members of the profession, designers, craftsmen, and talented people of diverse age groups get together to discuss and question Thai contemporary architecture and present their own ideas on vernacular living.

“The Architect Expo 2018 will open up new perspectives on Thailand’s vernacular architecture,” added Asst. Prof. Dr. Kasemsuk. “It is interesting to see how the local design that many may find outdated             co-exists with the contemporary and modern style. With the use of augmented reality and virtual reality, participants will be able to understand the development of local architecture and get to experience the real-world pavillion environment through 3D glasses as well.”

An academic seminar ASA Forum 2018 will also be held at the Expo by prominent architects and designers from Thailand and all over the world including Manuelle Gautrand , winner of the European Prize for Architecture from France, Yung HoChang, one of the Pritzker Architecture Prize committees, David Van Severen, an architect from  OFFICEKGDVS studio in Belgium, Han Tümertekin, winner of Aga Khan Award from Turkey, and Farshid Moussavi, an Iranian-born British architect and multi-time winner of RIBA Awards.
